Tajwid Refinement Techniques 2.0: Maratibul Ghunnah

Teaching: More Than Knowledge — It’s an Art Rooted in the Prophetic Way :D

Recently, I had the honour of facilitating a training session on Refining Tajwid Techniques with around 30 fellow asatizah. We revisited important rules of Nun Sakinah, Mim Sakinah, and Marātibul Ghunnah, using a mix of lecture, activity, and peer teaching.

But beyond the Tajwid content itself, what I was most excited to share was a powerful reminder — the 5 Prophetic Teaching Strategies.

These are timeless tools the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used in his teaching — many of which we’re already using intuitively as teachers, coaches, or mentors today:

  1. Using analogies and examples

  2. Drawing from lived experiences

  3. Demonstrating and illustrating

  4. Asking questions

  5. Telling stories

And every time I lay these out in a workshop, there’s always a spark of recognition and gratitude from fellow educators.

💭 Because in our efforts to keep up with new strategies and frameworks, we sometimes forget that the most heart-centered, effective teaching style was already shown to us by the Prophet SAW himself.

From storytelling to setting real-life examples, the Sunnah isn’t just something we learn — it’s something we can live through our teaching.

And that’s what makes this path so beautiful:
We’re not just teaching. We’re serving. We’re emulating the Prophet SAW.

لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ

"Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have a beautiful example to follow…" (Qur’an 33:21)

"‏ومن سلك طريقًا يلتمس فيه علما سهل الله له به طريقًا إلى الجنة‏"
"Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah will ease his path to Paradise." (Sahih Muslim)

May Allah SWT accept our efforts as sincere ibadah. Ameen.
